Print to a printer on the internet (IPP push)

Sealed Print sends jobs directly to a printer that is reachable over the internet with IPP or IPPS.

With IPP push, Sealed Print sends each job to a printer address on the internet and checks the printer's status until the job is printed. No software runs on site. This suits printers that are already reachable from outside, for example through a print server or a port forwarding that you control.

Prerequisites

  • The Team or Business plan. See Plans and billing.
  • A printer address that starts with ipp:// or ipps:// and is reachable from the internet. Addresses in private networks (such as 192.168.… or 10.…) are rejected, because Sealed Print cannot reach them. For printers in your local network, use the relay client instead.
  • An admin switches on the outbound channel IPP push once under Settings → Outbound channels.

With this outbound channel, documents leave Sealed Print: they are handed to the printer you name. Prefer ipps://, so the document is encrypted on its way to the printer.

One-time setup

  1. Go to Destinations → New destination → Printer on the internet.
  2. Enter a name and the Printer URI, for example ipps://printer.example.com/ipp/print.
  3. Optionally switch on Share with all members, then select Create.

Sealed Print queries the printer's capabilities right after setup and once a day. Under Capabilities you see what was reported and can select Query again.

Every time

Jobs to this destination are sent right away. The delivery shows when the printer accepted the job, its job number at the printer and when it was printed. If the printer is not reachable, Sealed Print tries again, up to five attempts.

Troubleshooting

  • "The printer could not be reached": check the printer URI and that the printer is online and reachable from the internet (not only from your network).
  • "Must start with ipp:// or ipps://": enter the full address including the scheme.
  • The destination pauses after a plan change: without IPP push in the plan, its destinations no longer receive jobs. Upgrade under Settings → Billing, or route the jobs to another destination.
