Print to several destinations at once (destination groups)
Combine destinations into a group, or address several destinations in one printer URL or email address.
A destination group sends every job to all of its destinations at once: for example all printers on one floor, a printer plus an archive mailbox, or several email destinations as a distribution list. You use a group like a destination: in printer URLs, in email addresses and as a default. Each destination of the group gets its own delivery with its own status.
Prerequisites
- The Team or Business plan. Without it, jobs addressed to a group or to several destinations wait in the queue with "Needs destination"; sending a job to more destinations by hand in the queue works on every plan.
- At least two destinations. Each delivery counts towards the deliveries included in your plan, so a group of three destinations counts three deliveries per job.
One-time setup
- Go to Destinations → Groups and select New destination group.
- Enter a name, for example "Accounting distribution list". The Identifier is filled in from the name and fixed once the group exists; it is unique among destinations and groups.
- Under Destinations, choose up to 20 destinations.
- Optionally switch on Share with all members. A shared group can only contain destinations that are shared with all members.
- Select Create.
Using the group
- Printer URL: every source now shows a URL marked "(group)". Add it on a computer like any other printer URL.
- Email address: send to
<address>+<identifier>@sealedprint.com, or choose the group as the destination of an inbound email address. - Default: choose the group as your default destination under Destinations.
Several destinations without a group
On the source card, Combine several destinations builds a printer URL that prints to every destination and
group you choose, for example …/ipp/print/<token>/office/warehouse. In the same way, an email address can chain
identifiers: <address>[email protected]. For email addresses, Address for several destinations
builds the address for you.
Every time
Print to the group. The queue shows the progress, for example "In transit to 3 destinations · 1 delivered", and finally "Delivered to 3 destinations". If one delivery fails, the job shows how many failed, and you can retry or redirect just that delivery.
Troubleshooting
- "Addressed to a group or to several destinations, but your plan does not include destination groups": upgrade to Team, or send the job to the destinations by hand with Send to more destinations.
- "A shared group can only contain destinations that are shared with all members": share the destinations first, or keep the group private.
- "This identifier is already used by a destination, group or workflow": choose a different identifier.
What's next
- The queue and routing: send to more destinations, retry and redirect deliveries.
