Getting started

Create your account, connect a printer, set up a computer and print your first page.

Sealed Print gives every computer a personal printer URL. Whatever you print to it lands in your queue in the cloud, and from there it goes to a printer: one attached to a computer running the relay client, a network printer that fetches its jobs itself, a printer on the internet or an email address. This guide takes you from sign-up to the first printed page in about ten minutes.

Prerequisites

  • An email address and a password for your account.
  • A printer you want to print on, and a computer that is switched on next to it (Windows, macOS, Linux or a NAS), or a printer with IPP INFRA support.
  • A computer you want to print from. It can be the same one.
  • No plan to choose: everything in this guide is included in the Free plan.

One-time setup

1. Create your account

  1. Open Sign up and enter your name, email address and a password.
  2. Accept the terms of service and select Sign up.
  3. Sealed Print sends you an email. Open the link Confirm email address in it; the link is valid for 24 hours. Nothing arrived? Check your spam folder, or select Send link again.
  4. The page Welcome to Sealed Print opens. If colleagues have already invited you, accept their invitation. Otherwise, under Create your own organization, enter the Name of the organization (usually your company or team) and select Create organization. You become its owner and start on the Free plan.

The web app opens Getting started with three steps. Each step is ticked off once it is done.

2. Create a destination

A destination is where jobs are printed. The most common one is a printer attached to a computer:

  1. Next to Create a destination, select Open, or go to Destinations and choose New destination → Printer on a computer.
  2. Download the relay client on the computer that has the printer and start it. It installs itself, opens your browser and shows a code. Confirm the code with Connect.
  3. On the Relay clients tab, switch on Shared for the printer. It is now a destination.

The relay client guide explains every step for Windows, macOS and Linux. Other ways to connect a printer: INFRA printers, IPP push and email destinations.

The first destination of an organization automatically becomes the default for all members: jobs without a fixed destination go there.

3. Create a source

  1. Go to Sources and select New source.
  2. Give it a name, for example the name of the computer you print from, and select Create.

The source shows its printer URLs: one for Default routing and one for every destination you can print to.

4. Add the printer on your computer

  1. On the source, select Set up on a computer.
  2. Choose the tab of your operating system and follow the steps. On Windows you paste the printer URL under Add manually → Select a shared printer by name.

The printer URL guide explains every operating system in detail.

Every time

  1. Print from any program as usual and choose the Sealed Print printer.
  2. Open the Queue in the web app. The job appears within seconds, with a preview and its status: In transit, Printing, then Delivered.

Troubleshooting

  • "Confirm your email address first": open the confirmation link from the email. On the sign-in page you can request a new link.
  • The job waits with "Needs destination": you have no default destination yet, or automatic routing is off. Open the job and choose Print to …, or set a default under Destinations. See Default destinations.
  • The job stays "In transit": the computer with the relay client is off or offline. As soon as it is back, it picks up the job.
  • The printer does not appear in the operating system: see the troubleshooting section of the printer URL guide.
