Queue and routing
Default destinations and automatic routing
Decide where jobs without a fixed destination go, for yourself and for all members.
Many jobs arrive without a fixed destination: printed to the Default routing URL, uploaded without choosing a destination, shared from a phone, or sent to an email address with default routing. These jobs go to the default destination of the person printing. Each member has their own; admins can set one for everyone. If there is no default, or automatic routing is off, the job waits in the queue with Needs destination.
Prerequisites
- At least one destination. To connect printers, see Install the relay client, INFRA printers, IPP push or email destinations.
- You can choose destinations that you own or that are shared with all members; admins and owners can choose any.
- Setting the default for all members and switching automatic routing needs the role Admin or Owner.
One-time setup
The first destination of an organization automatically becomes the default for all members, so printing works right away. To change it, go to Destinations. The box at the top of the Destinations tab has three settings:
Your default destination
Under Your default destination, choose a destination or a group (Team plan). Your jobs without a fixed destination go there. No default destination means your jobs wait in the queue. You can also select Make my default in the row of a destination.
Default for all members (admins)
Under Default for all members, choose the destination for everyone. It also applies to new members and replaces every member's own choice, including yours; Sealed Print asks before it applies the change. Members can choose their own default again afterwards.
Route jobs automatically
Route jobs automatically to the default destination (admins) applies to jobs sent through the default routing URL and to uploads without a destination. When it is off, all such jobs wait in the queue for someone to assign a destination, for example when every document should be checked first.
Every time
- Print to the Default routing URL, upload without a destination, or share from your phone: the job goes to your default destination.
- To print somewhere else just once, use the printer URL of that destination, choose another destination when uploading, or redirect the delivery in the queue.
Troubleshooting
- Jobs keep waiting with "Needs destination": you have no default destination, automatic routing is off, or your default destination was deleted. Check the box at the top of Destinations.
- "Skipped: you may not print to this destination": the default points to a destination that is no longer shared with you. Choose another one.
- "Skipped: the outbound channel of this destination is switched off": an admin has switched off its outbound channel under Settings → Outbound channels.
